N2CC vs Star CC
Sat 3rd Sep 2011
Tudor Sports Ground
After an on off sequence of fixture arrangements, Cricket Bureau finally gave us Star CC from Hackney at the last hour. A decision well merited as the tail end of summer yielded a good sunny day for cricket. N2 lost the toss and were given the ball. The opening bowlers did well to contain early runs, initially inview of late arrivals which was good practice for the upcoming Mill Hill 6 asides. Shai snaffled an early wicket. Bowling changes were to be the feature of the day. Jacobi came on to finally break a partnership then the two slow bowlers of Young and Venting caused a middle order hari kari. Nick had two bowled and Roy found another LBW. Star did manage a final flourish finishing 158/9 all out, Richard claiming the last two wickets, one with a sharp C and B, and will be on an 'Olympian'style hatrick sometime in 2012.
Unfortunately the batting was to be a disappointment. The Star bowlers armed with another new ball found a deal of penetration and were difficult to dispatch for runs. After 17 overs and with the score at just 33, S Dyer ran himself out. This then triggered another collapse. Paul Weatherly also fell to a run out and subsequently four ducks in a row left N2 in an irretrievable position for any result. Parker continued to bat with great discipline and started to counter attack compiling seven boundaries in testing conditions. Shai came in determined to play a captain's innings and when left with '3 leg' guard Roy was the last man out after dispatching three fours.
The match had been played in a good spirit, but our disappointed 9 failed to nominate a man of the match which in hindsight could be credited to Roy's efforts of 3 overs, a wicket and a maiden.
