N2 v Old Ignation
Ground: St Ignatious College
Date: 5/6/10
N2CC beat St Ignation. St Ignation 170 all out. N2CC 171 for 8.
Players faced with a fair day and a soggy moist pitch. Old Ignation won the toss and chose to bat. Bhatt and Dodd opened the attack with 15 tight overs with Bhatt picking up 3 wickets. Most of St Ignation batsmen failed to reach double figures but the partnership between batsman 5 (91) and batsman 6 (52) with a fair number of boundaries meant the score moved along quite briskly. Thompson came on late as 4th change bowler and picked up an impressive 4 wickets at the end. The innings finally came to an end with Butler picking up the wicket of batsman no 10 with his one and only ball of the match. St Ignation were 170 runs ahead and Captain Bhatt was left to rue his decision not to open with Butler.
Tea was interrupted by a downpour that put the continuation in doubt. The opposition captain was clearly worried about continuing play damaging the pitch. However by 5.45 the rain was over and play continued.
Parker and Hawkes opened and set up the platform with an opening stand of 84. Was this going to be enough to secure victory for the visitors. Nail biting time set in as wickets began to tumble but Dodd and Jacobi both hung around to keep an end up while Hawkes went on to score a century (jugs all round) with a boundary off his last ball with several overs in hand before the designated close of play.
