Finchley 3rd XI vs N2CC
Sat 17th Sep 2011
Finchley CC at Arden Field, East End Road

Well after the marvelous effort to reach the Mill Hill Six-a-side Final, a Bobby Moore 50th birthday N2 CC Invitational side were up against it against a Finchley 3rd XI boasting none other than Bobby's own daughter Daisy who in the past has achieved a hat-trick of wickets when 'ringing' for N2 CC. Thanks to Bobby for getting us a fixture on the lovely Finchley pitch. Thanks again to Bobby in organising this with Jonesy and hopefully this will turn into a regular end of season match.

After initial doubts as to whether we could get a team together, a another monumental thanks to Bobby in getting a few colts to play for us. On a changeable day with the odd drizzle and sunny spell to make sure no-one could predict the match, N2 won the toss and elected to field (as always!). An opening bowling partnership of (not-so) fast pace Bhatt and tricky leg-break Ferdy Hunter confused the opening Finchley partnership and helped to not only slow down an attacking batting order but also bore fruit as Hunter got two quick wickets with the scalps of the No2 and 3 batsmen. Some great field placements and bowling changes led to more wickets as Finchley 3rds stuttered along but all the time the opening bat still held his ground ending with 57 before Hunter coming back for a second spell clean bowled him, Second top scorer was John E Xtra with 31 runs from wides and byes. The number 9 bat managed to score 29 after a somewhat N2 like middle order collapse starting from No.2 bat down to No.8, Finchley set a target of 152 to win.

Most of the N2 team were contemplating eating a few more doughnuts and finishing off the sandwiches but they had a job to do!

With Dave Parker and Ryan Barney opening the innings for only the second time as a partnership, they passed their previous best of 91 (against Belmont) with a score of 94 before both were caught in successive overs with 15 overs left. It seemed like the game would be over early but N2 CC don't like to do anything easy. In came Ross Sutcliffe at No3 and Jamie Powe at 4 hoping to close out the innings but Powe flashed wildly and was caught by the wicket keeper for a second ball duck. Bobby Moore and Sutcliffe put on 45 before Ross was caught by Daisy at cover. Was there to be some more excitement? Nick Young came in and swished his bat at everything, but alas he failed to connect until probably the eight ball which went to square for no run. 12 runs to win and yet it took another six overs. So it was (fittingly) we found Bobby Moore at the crease with Nick Young still to score and Daisy bowling. Having shown his daughter a little too much respect and allowing her to bowl a maiden in the previous over, Bobby despatched the second ball of her next over for a four and another N2 WIN.

MOM - Ryan Barney for a marvelous batting performance preceded with some good bowling and great effort in the field.
